ZEISS #measuringhero Award
Winner of the Category: #measuringhero
Pablo Antunes da Rosa from Brazil has won in the category “#measuringhero” by receiving most votes from the community. For more than 12 years, Pablo has been gaining experience in metrology departments of different industrial companies and has been able to acquire a huge knowledge of structured light 3D optical scanners, 3D multisensory Coordinate Measuring Machines, measuring arms and the main conventional measuring devices, as well as many other metrology topics. Today, Pablo works at Boticário Group as a researcher on the development of quality controls for the packaging of their products, including perfumery, personal care, and make-up products.

How did you get into quality assurance?
At the age of 18, I started working at an automotive components company, and right at the beginning I had contact with the metrology lab. As soon as an opportunity arose, I managed to change areas and go to the laboratory, and that's when I fell in love with metrology. I started to become a professional in this area and started my Mechanical Engineering degree. During my education, I did an exchange program in Germany and for 7 months I was able to do an internship at ZEISS. This period was very important for all my professional and personal development. After that, when I finished my degree, I started my Masters in Metrology and Instrumentation, developing a method to evaluate flexible parts without the need for fixtures. Totally changing my area of expertise, two years ago, I started my experience as a researcher at the Boticário Group, working in the packaging development process, along with the beginning of my doctorate.
What fascinates you about measurement technology?
I have always been an investigative person. I like to know exactly how things work. Measurement technology makes it possible for me to do more than that: to dig deep to find the root cause of problems and to predict the operation of assemblies through the results of individual parts.
What are the biggest challenges in measurement of packages of perfumery and cosmetic products?
Our biggest challenge is the wide variety of shapes and materials. And because we work in the development process, not in quality control, sampling is reduced and often the time for programming + fixture development is much longer than for measurement.
